Normet’s Summer Trainee’s Diary: Diving Deeper to the Project

After the overall training, the work has shifted mainly to the office side. The next step in the project was to map the requirements. After reviewing the plans and several Teams meetings, the framework began to become clearer. At the same time, the people and ways of working in the different departments became familiar, as the project will influence and open up new opportunities for the working methods of the different departments. Each department also had its own needs and aspirations for the outcome.

Once the requirements and goals of the project were clear, I was able to get acquainted with the Power Apps tool and test its features. At the same time, the limitations of the tool became clear, so in the beginning I had to test different implementations and choose the most functional one. Power Apps quickly emerged as a very user-friendly tool and learning how to use it was completely independent with instructions found online. After getting to know the tool, the project started to move forward at a good pace.

After the completion of the first views and versions of the application, close cooperation began with the end users of the applications, in particular the installers. It was important to me that the app was as easy to use as possible and that users found it really useful, so the views and features were constantly evolving based on feedback from installers. In addition to the installers, I also presented the development of the application to other parties in the project, from whom I also received a lot of good feedback and tips, especially regarding the data to be collected and data storage.

Currently, the application is being tested in line production, where we monitor its operation in the production environment and collect feedback on its usability.

Haalariharjoittelun jälkeen työskentely on siirtynyt pääasiassa toimiston puolelle. Seuraava askel projektissa oli vaatimusten kartoittaminen. Aikaisemmin tehtyihin suunnitelmiin tutustumalla ja useiden Teams-kokousten jälkeen raamit alkoivat selkeytymään. Samalla tulivat tutuiksi eri osastojen ihmiset ja toimintatavat, sillä projekti tulee vaikuttamaan ja avaamaan uusia mahdollisuuksia eri osastojen työtapoihin. Jokaisella osastolla oli myös omat tarpeensa ja toiveensa lopputuloksen suhteen.

Kun projektin vaatimukset ja tavoitteet olivat selvillä, pääsin tutustumaan Power Apps -työkaluun ja testaamaan sen ominaisuuksia. Samalla selvisi myös työkalun rajoitteet, joten alkuun täytyi testailla erilaisia toteutustapoja ja valita näistä toimivin. Power Apps paljastui nopeasti hyvin käyttäjäystävälliseksi työkaluksi ja käytön opettelu tapahtuikin täysin itsenäisesti netistä löytyvien ohjeiden avulla. Työkalun tultua tutuksi, projekti lähti etenemään hyvällä vauhdilla.

Sovelluksen ensimmäisten näkymien ja versioiden valmistuttua alkoi tiivis yhteistyö sovellusten loppukäyttäjien eli erityisesti asentajien kanssa. Minulle oli tärkeää, että sovellus olisi mahdollisimman helppokäyttöinen ja käyttäjät kokisivat sen oikeasti hyödylliseksi, joten näkymät ja ominaisuudet kehittyivät koko ajan asentajilta saadun palautteen perusteella. Asentajien lisäksi esittelin sovelluksen kehittämistä myös muille projektin osapuolille, joilta sain myös paljon hyvää palautetta ja vinkkejä etenkin kerättävään dataan ja tietojen tallennukseen liittyen.

Tällä hetkellä sovellus on testattavana linjatuotannossa, jossa seuraamme sen toimintaa tuotantoympäristössä ja keräämme palautetta sen käytettävyydestä.
