Normet’s Summer Trainee’s Diary: Summary of my summer at Normet and future directions
My summer internship at Normet is over and it is a good time to sum up the events and experiences of the summer. I had a good time at Normet and found it easy to get involved in the work community. The summer internship was a rewarding and educational experience that provided a lot of valuable lessons for future challenges. I feel lucky to be involved in the Power Apps project, where I got to know the people and practices of different departments and create something new.
It was also nice to see how well the work tasks had been prepared by Normet. With the help of comprehensive background materials and the support of a supervisor, getting on the project was easy and I also got the responsibility to take the project forward. The work suitably offered challenges, but also a lot of feelings of success, which made doing the work meaningful throughout the summer.
Testing the application that I developed during the summer in line production was a successful experiment that provided a lot of new information and ideas for future developments. I was positively surprised at how well the line production workers got involved in application testing and development. Through the collaboration, we made the application as easy to use and informative as possible. My goal, then, was to take the end users of the application well into account and to develop an application that would make sense to use and, at best, bring added value to all parties.
However, my work at Normet does not end there, as I will be able to continue my work on the project, for the wider implementation of the application, and start doing a diploma thesis for Normet at the end of the year. I am really excited about this opportunity and that I can continue to work in such an encouraging and inspiring environment. Based on my experience, I can recommend Normet as an employer to everyone and especially to students who are looking for summer jobs or an internship!
Yhteenveto kesästäni Normetilla ja tulevaisuuden suunnitelmat
Kesäharjoitteluni Normetilla on ohi ja onkin hyvä hetki niputtaa kesän tapahtumat ja kokemukset yhteen. Viihdyin Normetilla hyvin ja koin työyhteisöön mukaan pääsemisen helpoksi. Kesäharjoittelu oli antoisa ja opettavainen kokemus, josta jäi paljon arvokasta oppia tulevaisuuden haasteisiin. Koen olevani onnekas päästessäni mukaan kesän aikana esittelemääni Power Apps projektiin, jonka parissa pääsin tutustumaan eri osastojen ihmisiin ja toimintatapoihin, sekä luomaan uutta.
Oli myös mukava huomata, miten hyvin kesätyötehtävät oli valmisteltu Normetin toimesta. Kattavien taustamateriaalien ja esimiehen tuen avulla projektiin kiinni pääseminen oli helppoa ja sain myös vastuuta projektin eteenpäin viemisestä. Työ tarjosi sopivasti haasteita, mutta myös paljon onnistumisen tunteita, jonka ansiosta työn tekeminen pysyi mielekkäänä läpi kesän.
Kesän aikana kehittämäni Power Apps sovelluksen testaaminen linjatuotannossa oli onnistunut kokeilu, joka antoi paljon uutta tietoa ja ideoita tulevia kehityssuuntia varten. Olen positiivisesti yllättynyt, miten hyvin linjatuotannon asentajat lähtivät mukaan sovelluksen testaukseen ja kehitykseen. Yhteistyöllä saimme kehitettyä sovelluksesta mahdollisimman helppokäyttöisen ja informatiivisen. Tavoitteenani olikin ottaa sovelluksen loppukäyttäjät hyvin huomioon ja kehittää sellainen sovellus, jonka käyttäminen olisi mielekästä ja toisi parhaimmillaan lisähyötyä kaikille osapuolille.
Työni Normetilla eivät kuitenkaan pääty tähän, sillä pääsen jatkamaan työtäni projektin parissa, sovelluksen laajempaa käyttöönottoa varten ja aloittamaan loppuvuodesta diplomityön tekemisen Normetille. Olenkin todella innoissani tästä mahdollisuudesta ja siitä että saan jatkaa työskentelyä näin kannustavassa ja inspiroivassa ympäristössä. Voinkin kokemukseni pohjalta suositella Normettia työnantajana kaikille ja erityisesti opiskelijoille, jotka etsivät kesätöitä tai harjoittelupaikkaa!

I am Juho Mark, a 23 years old student from Lappeenranta, Finland. I am studying master’s program in engineering, with Industrial Engineering and Management as my major and Software Engineering as my minor at LUT University. I am interested in how companies can develop and improve their operations with different digitalization solutions.
