Normet has upgraded its full range of emulsion charging systems and introduced new 4- and 6-tonne Normet ECM versions. The existing 1.5-, 2.2- and 3-tonne modules have also been upgraded with the latest system improvements, providing customers with advanced technology across the entire range.

Underground emulsion charging operations have varying requirements for capacity, configuration and application across different mines and tunnel projects. To meet these operational needs, Normet has upgraded its full range of emulsion charging systems and introduced new 4- and 6-tonne Normet ECM versions. The existing 1.5-, 2.2- and 3-tonne modules have also been upgraded with the latest system improvements, providing customers with advanced technology and greater flexibility across the entire range.

Normet ECM in brief

Normet ECM is a modular emulsion charging system installed on a purpose-built Charmec carrier. It brings together the tanks, emulsion mixing and pumping equipment, process controls and mechanized hose-handling solutions needed for both development and production charging.

The versatile Normet ECM is designed for modern, chemically site-sensitized emulsion explosives and can be configured for emulsions from different suppliers. With matrix delivery rates of up to 95 kg/min and an electrically operated power-pack option, it supports efficient charging across a wide range of underground applications.

For development charging, the hydraulically operated face charging reel extracts and retracts up to 10 meters of charging hose, reducing manual hose handling and enabling accurate emulsion dosing while string charging.

For production charging, the long-hole system supports upward and downward charging of boreholes up to 40 meters long. The hose pusher mechanizes hose movement, reducing physically demanding work, while a hose guide and diverting pulley support uphole and downhole operations.

Upgrades across the ECM range

The completely new 4- and 6-tonne ECM versions are optimized for front-cabin underground charging equipment, extending the Normet offering for operations requiring greater emulsion capacity.

All sizes now feature Normet’s latest control system, providing precise emulsion dosing adjustable in grams per metre. Optimized gasser dosing helps maintain consistent product density, supporting accurate charging and effective rock fragmentation while reducing emissions.

The system includes process-data logging, comprehensive charging documentation and automatic process cut-off based on predefined criteria. Temperatures and pressure are continuously monitored at multiple points to support safe and reliable operation.

Operators can manage borehole presets and recipes through the Multi-Information Display located on the ECM. A remote display in the basket and radio control provide convenient access to the key charging functions. Charging data can be transferred wirelessly or via USB and viewed through a web dashboard for effective visualization and operational follow-up.

The benefits of a complete OEM solution

When both the carrier and the emulsion charging system come from Normet, the complete machine can be engineered and supported as one integrated solution. The carrier layout, payload, hydraulics, electrical systems, safety functions, operator controls and charging equipment are designed to work together. This provides customers with clear system responsibility, optimized machine configuration and access to one global support network. It also simplifies operator training, spare parts management, technical support and lifecycle services.

Discover Normet’s latest emulsion charging machines

The recently launched Charmec LF 1105 E is purpose-built for underground galleries of up to 16 × 10 meters. It provides a payload capacity of up to 6 tonnes and a 500 kg basket lifting capacity. Its robust basket boom offers a maximum vertical reach of 13 meters and a maximum lateral reach of 22 meters. The LF 1105 is also available with an ANFO charging system.

The new Charmec LF 607 E is designed for safe and efficient face and production charging in underground mines and tunnels with cross-sections of up to 65 m² and a maximum face height of 8.4 meters. Its upgraded basket boom provides a 700 kg lifting capacity, basket slew and improved load sensing, supporting efficient and controlled basket operation. It accommodates an emulsion kit of up to 10 tonnes total weight.

Both new machines are built on Normet’s L-series carrier, providing the power and mobility needed for efficient movement between underground working areas. Both can be equipped with Normet ECM or an external emulsion charging system and feature dedicated storage for packaged explosives, primers and detonators, reducing the need for an additional explosives service vehicle. A FOPS/ROPS cabin, front axle suspension and several safety features are also included as standard.

Together, the upgraded ECM range and the latest purpose-built Charmec machines provide integrated emulsion charging solutions for different tunnel profiles and requirements, strengthening Normet’s offering for safe, productive and accurate underground explosives charging.
